The Park's Service Public d’Assainissement Non Collectif (SPANC) is charged with overseeing, advising and checking on all non-mains drainage sewage disposal systems within the Communes which have transferred this responsibility to the Service.
What is a SPANC ?
This is a body which, here as in all of France, checks on and advises about the functioning and correct installation of all non-mains drainage sewage disposal systems (septic tanks, grease traps, sand filters, etc.)
Since 2006, in accordance with the law, all Communes must have a SPANC. They can set it up themselves, transfer the responsibility to another public authority, or enlist the help of a private company. Within the Park area, 68 of the Park's communes belong to the Regional Natural Park's SPANC.

The SPANC is a public service, financed by charges payable by users to the Trésor Public after a visit, the amount of these charges varying according to the service provided. A charge is calculated to cover the cost of the SPANC's operation in its entirety. It may be revised annually to take into account grants provided by the Agence de l’Eau Adour-Garonne and variations in cost to the service. These tariffs are set out in the service regulation documents.
