Clinging to the cliffside, Rocamadour, a "Great Site of Occitanie", provides impressive views over the Alzou and Ouysse valleys.
A magnet for visitors, this village has kept its mediaeval houses, its castle and the chapels which make up the sanctuary dedicated to the Black Virgin, Our Lady of Rocamadour.
To explore Rocamadour, go through the Figuier Gate, then walk down the Rue de la Couronnerie : Rocamadour's only street, lined with lovely houses. Then climb the Great Staircase (233 steps !) to get to the level of the sanctuaries, where there are 7 churches/chapels.
The must-sees : the chapel of Our Lady and the Black Virgin.
